Match Report - 25 Oct 2020, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers beat Albion

Rovers!

Firstly...some info for this forthcoming Sunday.

THE MATCH IS ON 4G SO BRING APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR. MOULDIES AND ASTROS. NO METAL STUDS. KICK OFF IS 12.30. MEET TIME IS 11.30am.

Rovers 4 –1 Albion

And so the Rovers juggernaut continues.

At 1-0 down inside a minute, on a sloping pitch and with a slightly chaotic start to the morning as Dundonald was called off and I called around to secure a pitch and ref, I feared the worst. By 70 minutes it was game over and the points were secured to see us sitting top of the table.

Albion started at a really high tempo and our anxiety to get back into it caused us to be a bit frantic in possession and snatch at the decent chances we had. It was arguably our toughest half of the season so far. Their goal saw them break quickly, cut the ball back on the edge of the 6 yard and a late rushing Albion midfielder was there to tuck it home from close range.

The second half saw us add the ‘12th Man’ to the side...going downhill... and allowed us to take a breather and regain a bit of composure and focus.

Son to Kane, sorry I mean Shaf to Fordy , saw us go level as a quality corner was driven in and Fordy peeled towards the front post, leapt like a champion John West Salmon and powered the ball in at the near post with his bonce. A near carbon copy of his finish vs South London Panthers. An exquisite finish. Shaf had spent the first half being taken out in differing degrees of sh1thousery as he skipped round his opposite man so it was also pleasing to see his persistence rewarded.

Fordy then put us 2-1 up with a hooiked looped chip which initially appeared to sailing towards Jupiter, near Seb’s South London Panthers shot, before almost instantaneously losing momentum and heading straight back down and into the far corner of the net. Abu called it early..”It’s in that” as a number of Rovers players looked to berate Fordy for not passing. It certainly was in and we were in front. 2-1

At 2-1 the desire shown was there for all to see. G did a John Terry vs Slovenia and got his face in front of a goal bound shot in a mad scramble and James Lambert pulled off a wonderful old fashioned sliding Stuart Pearce tackle to snuff out any goal threat.

We went 3-1 up from a Danny Cain penalty who used typical sh1thousery by booting the ball and the puddle next to the penalty spot (in echoes of Darren Bent bamboozling Pepe Reina by scoring via a beach ball.,) as he slotted home. Shaf had won the pen after what can only be described as being uber bungled over in the box. Think George Michael falling out of a car on the M1. In stilettos .

The 4-1 result was sealed in fine style when a fine flowing move saw Bunman tuck home in the box with his left peg from a Bern cut back.

MOM deservedly went to Fordy for his two goals and for dragging us from 1-0 down to 2-1 up.

Sunday 1 st November Fixture

We’re back on the WAY TO WILLESDEN in cup action vs Grand Athletic. Grand Athletic are in the same division as South London Panthers who we met earlier in the competition. No idea what they are like but we’ve set a marker and standard this season so we have to meet that irrespective of who we are playing. The result will look after itself. Let’s make sure it’s a GRAND day out.

THE MATCH IS ON 4G SO BRING APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR. MOULDIES AND ASTROS. NO METAL STUDS. KICK OFF IS 12.30. MEET TIME IS 11.30am.
