My bad for sending out this match info so late. It has been a busy week and also every time I thought about my match report composition, I started nursing a stiffy and had to lie down.
ROVERS 2 – 1 AFC Balham
Earlier this season we would have lost this match. Conceding a goal at 2-0 up would’ve signalled a collapse and defeat from the jaws of victory. Instead we maintained our shape, composure and looked like adding to our lead. Well done all round. Particularly as it was the first game back from Christmas which we always lose!
Milby put us 1-0 up with a finely taken pen after a Tim had been cleaned out in the box. No messing.
Sharpey then put us 2-0 in the 2nd half after a fine ball from Beefy down the left hand channel sent the flying left wing back on a lung busting run past the last man and chipping the ball over the onrushing keeper. A fine goal.
AFC Balham got a goal back after a long range shot squirted away from Pybus at the far post, defied the laws of physics by not going out for a corner and dribbled towards a lurking AFC Balham attacked who tucked it home.
We saw out the game to find aplomb and could even a goal being incorrectly ruled out (it was WELL over the line) and Carswell deciding he’d rather not score and head the ball away from goal with a fine chance to score.
MOM Nath was an absolute revelation at the back and a calming influence throughout.
