Match Report

Match Report - 11 Mar 2018, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers lost to Battersea Park Rangers

Rovers!
Rovers 1 – 2 Battersea Park Rangers
Call me Neil Warnock but I was thoroughly proud of Sunday’s performance. Yes, we lost but we showed all the Warnock requisites of commitment, heart, determination etc and were unlucky to end up on the losing side with a side thrown together as best as possible. That for me is one of the best characteristics of Clapham Rovers and it transcends football. Big thanks to all involved for a monster performances.
We started strongly and put Battersea Park Rangers from the off. They had an opening breakaway chance inside 5 minutes which went wide but we took the lead deservedly from a Nath penalty after Tim Louis was chopped down. Nath confidently dispatched the pen to the keeper’s right and we put Battersea Park Rangers under pressure from the off once more.
We thing won a 2nd penalty after Tim Louis was once again brought down for our 4th pen in 3 matches. This time Tim took the pen, went the same way as Nath but the keeper read it, made a decent stop and pushed the ball out. This proved to be the sliding doors moment.
BPR equalized 5 mins before half time from a cross into the box which was flicked on at the near post and was headed in at the back post. Right on the stroke of half time they then went 2-1 up after the ball was cut back by their monster centre forward to a fast approaching midfielder who slotted the ball in down the centre of the goal from the edge of the box.
In the second half we couldn’t produce the same momentum but did have a Dusan goal ruled out for offside. We did however match them, the Premier League leaders, blow for blow and the casual supporter would have assumed it was us on top of the pile.
Let’s keep that up for the rest of the season! UTFR
MOM. Tim Louis and I were tied for the award. Tim for an all action display and me for presumably not giving the opposition any hospital passes they could score from.
Sunday 14th March Fixture
This Sunday sees us take on Wimbledon Town. These are beatable so let’s take 3 points and keep the pressure up on those at the top the league.

This ground is a bit of a ball bag to get to. It looks like the best thing to do might be to get a train to New Malden and get lifts from there.
