Rovers 2 – 0 Wimbledon Town
We finally won at match and put in a decent performance at that. Wimbledon Town were put to the sword as we debuted a 352 formation for the first time.
We got a stroke of luck we had been missing since our form has faltered to go 1-0. A ball over the top from Harry saw Al put their centre back under pressure as he raced back to his own goal. The CBs attempted clearance looped over his own keeper and squirmed into the far corner of the net. A lucky goal but none more deserved for our pretty dominant display thus far in the match.
Tim then put us 2-0 up 5 mins before half time with a shot which went in off the post following a ball in from Bunny. Before that Al had a decent shout for a pen denied when the keeper took him out at the shin as he went to smash the ball in in the 6 yard box.
The second half saw us see out the win pretty comfortably despite Wimbledon Town bringing on a man mountain upfront who seemed to think kicking G’s heels was the best way to make an impression.
In sum, a fine Sunday’s football as we looked more like our old selves from the start of the season. 1-14 we were superb and it’s just a case of banging out a few of those performances from now until the season’s end.
MOM. A second consecutive MOM for Harry in a left wing back position. Showed great desire to get up and down the pitch, created chances at one end and put in a defensive shift at the other.
Sunday 21st January Fixture
This Sunday sees us return to Marcus Lipton Cup action against Battersea Park Rangers. These are 2nd in the Premier Division and in fine form....perfect timing for a cup shock then!
