And so our 2017/18 London Sunday Trophy escapade ends with a 2-0 loss to AFC Balham who ran out deserved winners.
On a windy, bobbly and muddy pitch we struggled to meet the physical challenge laid down by Balham and didn't have a shot on target until the last 10 mins where we hit the post twice from a goal mouth scramble after a corner.
AFC Balham went 1-0 up after 20 mins when their right midfielder came of the wing to nip in front of me in the left back position and hook the ball into the bottom right hand corner from the edge of the box.
At halftime we felt pleased to only be 1-0 down after playing against the driving wind and being pretty much pummeled by Balham dominance.
Sadly the 2nd half saw no huge change to the status quo and Balham continued to win the majority of the 50/50s and create the clear cut chances.
They sealed the match on 75 mins as a free kick into the box saw a bit of head tennis before their right back heading the ball back from the right byline to their giant centre back who nodded the ball over Sheva who challenged him and myself on the line.
Milby had our proper shot from about 30 yards which high and wide soon after before the aforementioned goal mouth scramble which saw G eventually slide the ball wide.
MOM. I have bestowed it upon Harry Sklavounos for an all action display with attacking intent and defensive work.
Sunday 14th January Fixture
