Match Report - 29 Oct 2017, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers beat Politics
Rovers!
Rovers 2 – 0 Politics
The run continues! We’re now up to 8 unbeaten in league and cup since the start of the season.
Politics were obstinate opponents to play against and hit the bar with a couple of screamers during the match but we shrugged off last week’s ‘battle mode’ to play some decent football and show our quality in our new AC Milan style kit.
Cliff scored his debut goal for the Rovers after Harry scampered down the line and cut it back for the man. The finish was a deliberate one which took it’s time to hit the corner of the net but had the keeper beaten all ends up since it left his boot. Sadly for Cliff, that was about it for his day as he had to go off injured with a pulled hammy.
The sub saw Des move into centre midfield and the Charlton Brothers reunited at centre back for the first time this season and indeed a long time before that.
After the goal and substitution we continued the dominance but could not find another before half time.
The second half saw the status quo resumed and we were denied when we hit the post twice. Once such occasion followed a spectacular run from half way from Tim who sprinted past several players with a speed we didn’t know he had, gave the keeper the eyes and hit the near post. It would have been one of the best Rovers goals ever seen. That Tim was on the pitch was particularly remarkable having had 8 hours sleep in the 3 nights, consumed a brewery in alcohol and got cramp in his calf from sh@gging. Tom Allen was also unlucky as his effort hit the post in a useful debut performance.
Tim did however get his deserved goal to seal the 2-0 win. Tom Allen won the ball in our own half, played in Tim who advanced into the box and slammed it home.
Ten minutes from the end, there was also the sight of seeing Milby back out on the pitch as he made his return after a long injury lay off.
MOM: Tim got the unanimous nod for this with an all action display which belied 3 days of being a ruddy, ruddy, ruddy LAD.
