Match Report

Match Report - 03 Apr 2016, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers lost to Lixus

Rovers!
This week we’re up against the auld enemy Kings Utd which will undoubtedly be a spicy match. We’re missing a few players so please get back to me by Friday at noon to make your availability clear. If you have a mate who is a decent lad, good footballer and interested in playing for the Rovers, this would be an ideal opportunity to get them involved.
Rivers 1 – 4 Loxus
I feel like I could copy a paste a match report from any number of fixtures this season for this particular review. We couldn’t be faulted for effort and determination but at the end of the day the oppositions quality told in the final scoreline as they took their chances when they came.
Lixus are undoubtedly a quality side but are also a team of windup merchants and barefaced cheaters. A dive and accompanying faux scream in our penalty area in the first half was one of the most disgraceful bits of gamesmanship i’ve ever seen on a football pitch. I can’t wait to give them a good hiding.
We aimed to contain Lixus from start and for the most part it worked. We restricted them to shots from distance which rarely troubled us and cleared their attempted through balls as best we could. When we had the ball we looked to breakaway quickly and almost went one up through a combination of Patrick and Smudger. The keeper made a decent save though.
We were getting through a vast amount of work to contain Lixus and it was therefore a bit of a kick in the nuts when they went 1-0 up from a ball into the box which was flicked on in the six yard box and looped over Pybus.
We went in a half time and spoke about keeping it tight and looking to give more quality when we did have the ball. Lixus did sadly go further ahead from a stonking ball which split the central defence of Carswell and Bunny for a Lixus attacker to race through and dispatch home emphatically.
At this point Lixus took their foot off the gas and began to t1t about as they thought the game was won.
It was therefore with great satisfaction that we pulled a goal back through the returning Nath. We played some lovely 1-2s up the pitch before Nath got into the box and mishit the ball home. They all count and it felt wonderful to be back in the game.
Sadly Lixus then moved up a gear to fire in 2 more goals and give the scoreline an emphatic feel. One was from a ball into the box for their sub to turn and fire the ball in at the far post from the right hand side of the box and the other was fired home when a ball on the edge of the box was not cleared sufficiently. The game finished 4-1
Once again our effort couldn’t be faulted but we came up short against a side with a bit more quality and a ruthless streak.
MOM. Patrick was MOM for his tireless running. From his position up top he was everywhere.
