Looking at their results below, I can’t really tell you what to expect. There’s a real mixed bag in there.

Anyone who can get a win vs Kings Utd is not to be underestimated. Let’s therefore get our heads on and approach the game in the manner we have done all season. We’re Clapham Rovers, we play to win!

Rovers 3 – 0 Real Northern ‘A’

This wasn’t a vintage performance but we were the best side and deserved the 3 points.

We started slowly again and left ourselves vulnerable to conceding a sloppy goal. Danny Pybus once again saved our blushes.

We then dominated the next 20 minutes of play before the game became scrappy for the last 20 minutes of the half. Ironically it was within these last 20 minutes that we scored to put ourselves in control.

The first was from a Godders corner from the left hand side. Bunny made a run in front of their defender on the post who could only make a poor effort at clearing it with his face. Shaun then nipped in to ram the ball home at the near post.

Right on the stroke of halftime we then scored a second to leave me nursing a wet patch in my trousers. A great ball in from Smudger was met by Shaun who leapt like a champion John West salmon to meet the ball with his head and curl the ball into the far side of the net. It was ruddy wonderful.

Despite the focus at halftime being on starting the half well, we looked sloppy again and conceded a ‘phantom’ goal. I’ve never seen anything like it in all my years of playing football.

A searching cross at the far post saw a Real Northern player lash in the ball for what I thought was a certain goal. However as there was a hole in the net, due to a pathetic attempt to put up the nets by Real Nothern, there was sufficient doubt in everyone’s minds as to whether it was a goal or not.

After a bit of verbal jousting, even a Real Northern player admitted that he wasn’t sure if it was a goal or not. The ref who had earlier said ‘I never change my mind,’ then changed his mind and disallowed the goal.

The disallowed goal certainly boosted the motivation of Real Northern but we sealed the match with a wonderful lob from Godders on 65 minutes.

From about 40 yards, Godders lofted the ball back from whence it came, straight over the impressive Real Northern keeper and into the net. This also left me nursing a Kleenex to the trousers.

MOM. It was a close run thing between Shaun and Godders but Shaun took the plaudits.
