Match Report - 23 Feb 2014, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers beat Parklife B

This Sunday is a big game. After a gentle introduction to football after xmas against Lokomotiv Ivan and Parklife we've got a tasty match vs Real Northern.

Looking at the league table, we can see how a win against them will put us in the driving seat to catch Lonsdale in their cheap Sports Direct‎ gear.

Not wanting to put too much pressure on us obviously, as Real Northern will drop points between now and the end of the season (like us against London Rhinos) ‎but expect a physical match and one which we can and will win if we play to our potential.

I shall be on holiday but the Bunman will be taking the team and leading by example.

Sunday 23rd February

Rovers 3 - 1 Parklife B.

‎T'was a game of 2 halves and like my choice of shorts (read/black, 100% polyester) and pair of boots (Umbro, Adidas, non matching) it was bit of a puzzling one.

We dominated the 1st half to the extent that we could've had 8 and then had our backs against the wall for the 2nd half where conceded one and looked a bit shaky.

The pitch was nothing short of terrible. Soft, bobbly and covered in sand like a Labradoodle at the beach, we nevertheless got to grips with the game before Parklife did and tore into then at the off, in all our areas of the pitch.

It was indeed our team pressure which ‎brought about the first goal. Their keeper was hurried into poor clearance which saw the ball balloon into the air. The new, lean, mean (Juan's Mate) Dan harried their keeper as he tried to retrieve it before bundling it towards Molby who was on hand in the 6 yard box to tap it in.

In fairness the wind was blowing against Parklife B and they were finding it difficult to get out of their box. The lack of intensity wasn't helping though and The Bunman showing greater desire than his opposite number, we went 2-0 up.

Beating his marker to a header in midfield, Bunny saw the ball loop over the defence to Dan who rushed through on goal and slotted past the advancing keeper with a minimum of fuss.

‎Our third was absolute peach of a strike from Dan again. A loose ball in the right hand channel was seized upon by Dan and from about 35 yards he hooked the ball in, over the keeper and into the far corner of the net. It was ruddy marvellous.

Half time came and there was not much to say except don't do anything too silly or intricate and just maintain the status quo.

‎For the most part we did but Parklife came into the match more in the 2nd half. The wind often also pinned us in when defending our goal.

That's not to say we didn't have chances though. We still had quite a few. At 3-1 up, Dan looked odds on to complete his hat trick but as he rounded the keeper he scuffed the ball wide.

The Parklife goal actually came about from ‎our free kick which broke down and saw Parklife clear long and far down the pitch.

Unable to clear our lines properly, the ball was worked out to our left hand side to their previously anonymous right winger who swung in a lovely cross to compliment an equally lovely headed finish.

This put us on the rocks a bit and we could've been punished further when Parklife had a decent shout for a pen turned down by the ref. A knock from G saw their player sprawled on the floor in the box and whilst it was soft, I've seen them given. I can only assume the ref waved it away following the bottle of rum I ‎gave him before the match.

All in all, a decent run out and one that has eased us into the Quarter Finals and a big game against Real Northern.
