We continued where we left off last week with another great display of football to brush aside Worcester Park Rangers for the 3 points in a game where the equivalent of flying pig refereed, a unicorn ran the line and Liz Hurley did a full frontal streak at half time (but more about my first goal in 5 seasons later on.)
What was most pleasing in the game was the way we kept playing decent football and we maintained the patience to stroke the ball around at every opportunity without going the Tony Pulis route as time ran out.
The first half ended 0-0 with us having been well on top throughout. We looked dangerous down the wings with JD and Charlie combining well on the right hand side to put some crosses in and Jordan putting a busy shift in down the left.
Our runs from central midfield from the 'Dream Trio Edition VI' were particularly pleasing and gave us great momentum going forward. There was one particular move which saw a through ball from G, pick up a run from Nathan in midfield who strode into the box and hit a shot just wide.
The second half saw us start slowly and let WPR get a foothold in the game which they hadn't really threatened to do in the first half. We weathered the storm though and it's to Adam and Charlie's credit they slotted in at CB and RB respectively, seamlessly.
The goal came on the 65 minute mark from the G man and what a nice finish it was. A ball was skewed up into the air after another Rovers corner, James making his debut and his first touch, when to control the ball and inadvertently knocked to G and he steered it past the keeper from 12 yards first time and with a minimum of fuss.
Godders, then scored his 4th in 4 games and what a tidy finish it was. He'd put in a decent shift up top in a 4-5-1 and not always got the support he'd prefer. After losing several pounds throughout the game running up and down the left flank, I showed my blinding pace over 5.5yards to drop the shoulder, go round 2 players and hit a ball to Godders on the edge of the box. He skipped round the defender and then the keeper like Torres circa 2005.
....and then it happened. Thora Hird has scored more 11 a side goals than myself in the last 5 seasons and she's been dead at least 10 years. I laid the ball off to James, he ran down the left wing and put in a cracking ball into the path of my run. I hit it low into the bottom left hand corner first time for my first ever Clapham Rovers goal in the league or cup. I tried to celebrate but I was too tired and in my near black out, thoughts of 5 years of Rovers whizzed through my mind.
MOM. After 10 pints and at 10.30pm at night, Bunny said it was me. I'll take that. Just call me Bixente Lizarakew from now on.
Let's keep this run going boys. It was a great game to play in and we played some lovely stuff at times. Full credit to the subs as well for their contribution and it just shows how important everyone is to this team.
