ROVERS 1 - 3 LONDON RHINOS
I'm scratching my head at how London Rhinos have taken 4 points off us in 2 matches. Man for man, we're better and at times we stroked the ball around nicely. As soon as Godders put us up 1 nil after about 20 mins from a hooked, left footed ball from yours truly, cleared the back 4 for Godders to run onto unopposed, I thought it was a question of just how many we'd get.
Rhinos looked porous at the back and we threatened before and after the goal from willing runners in Godders, Jordan and Ed breaking from midfield. Most of Rhinos attacks stemmed from our mistakes or lack of concentration and this was a signal of how the game was going to pan out.
We were victim of a rather strange decision from the referee right before we conceded an equalizer. Another through ball saw Jordan through on goal, his shot was came off the keeper and bar for Godders to follow in. He was then bizarrely given offside and despite starting well behind Jordan when the ball was played.
From this free kick, the ball broke down our left hand side. It was worked into the box and cleared only to the right hand side of the six yard box by a Rovers defender. The Rhinos left midfielder then appeared completely unopposed to smash the ball into the net giving Danny not chance. We then went into half time, undeservedly at 1-1.
The talk at half time was to maintain the status quo but up the concentration levels to avoid another foul up. Despite this, we then played perhaps our most ineffectual 2nd half in a long time. I can count only 1 decent chance in a scrappy half where Jordan swivelled and could only offer a scuffed shot at the keeper. London Rhinos came far more into the match and were dealing better with the blustery conditions.
Rhinos went 2-1 up when their substitute attacker, burst into the area with defenders in hot pursuit. Danny went for the ball but unfortunately took the man and Rhinos stroked home the pen. They then put a gloss on the performance, with us pushing for an equaliser we left ourselves exposed at the back and a left footed shot was stroked home from the edge of the box.
All in all it was a disappointing match. We're not putting teams to the sword when we're on top and then we're getting punished for it. The league is still on. We will have to up our performance levels an extra 10% each if we're going to achieve a position, our man for man talent deserves.
This week we take a break from league action to play in the Bert Gabey Cup. This is a cup we have won in the past and I want us to go for it again. It will also be a good dress rehearsal for our league matches where we should be looking to take some points off Lokomotiv Londres.
