Match Report - 22 Sep 2013, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers beat Parklife B
Rovers!
ROVERS 2 - 0 Parklife B
So we finally got our first win of the season in a match with a scoreline which suggests it was closer than it actually was.
Just last our previous match vs Accrington Stanley Bowles, we created a shedload of chances but only gave ourselves the slimmest of margins to see out the game. You are not going to dominate a game for 90mins and in this one, a sloppy 20mins from 60-80mins saw us put under some pressure when really we should've been of sight well before then. A win is a win though and in truth we played some lovely football throughout and I was really pleased at how well we played in the face of no less than 4 players pulling out on the morning of the game.
We went 1-0 up with an absolute screamer from Niall on his debut. The ball was worked out to him at the right hand corner of the box, following some ping pong after a corner, and he absolutely walloped it first time with his right foot, off the bottom of the bar and into the side netting, giving the keeper no chance. It was a bl00dy joy to watch.
The rest of the first was then characterised with us being camped in their half, exploiting the hesitancy in the Parklife defence while occasionally fending off sporadic attacks from the breakdown in our play.
We dealt with it, easily enough when the chips were down a brave diving save from Danny or G and the Giant J were there to clear the lines.
Nath was having a great game in an unfamiliar centre mid role and was often at the heart of our decent play with slide rule passes for Griff, Rob and Gori to run onto. Indeed he was unlucky not to mark his impressive half with a goal as a cut back from the byline from Rob saw him arriving at pace only for his shot to go just over the bar.
The second half started much the same but our tempo dropped and Parklife got a foothold into the game.
They weren't playing the passing game that we were trying to employ but were getting a bit of joy from their direct running and long balls over the top. Their direct running forced us into a change. Matt Thomas, also making an impressive debut, dropped into centre mid from left wing and Rob dropped into left wing. This gave us more solidity and also gave us the boost we needed to get the second goal. The ball was laid out to the left for Rob to run on to. He used his last bit of energy, as he'd just about run himself into the ground, to out pace the left back and slip the ball into the far corner with his left foot. Game over.
Overall, our performances, particularly in the 1st half of matches have been great. Let's keep it up. I keep banging on about us not taking advantage from our chances but if we keep at it, we are going to absolutely hammer someone. The goals will come.
Just in case we do struggle for goals next week though, I've decided to sign this fox in the box.

This week we take on Lonsdale in the 1st Round 1st Leg of the Gladys Perry Challenge Cup. We've never won this so I want our name on it this year.
We're lucky to get 2 bites of the cherry to avenge our 5 nil drubbing at the hands of Lonsdale at the start of the season.
In the words of Dizzee Rascal, let's fix up and look sharp.
