Match Report - 21 Apr 2013, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers drew with Real Northern A
Rovers!
Rovers 2- 2 Real Northern
This was a tough physical game but one we should’ve won. 2 individual errors cost us the 3 points but I was pleased overall with our graft, determination and desire in the hot sun and on a hard pitch.
We went 1-0 down early on and it was no more than Real Northern deserved. We had started slowly and were being pinned back to the edge of our box. We failed to clear the ball on the edge of the box and a Real Northern attacker did well to wrong foot Godwin in the nets and slot the ball home.
The goal gave us the jolt we needed and from them on we stamped our impression on the game.
Our equaliser was simple but extremely well taken from Grif. A ball down the middle saw him shrug off the attentions of a Real Northern centre half, round the keeper and slot the ball home.
We then went 2-1 up pretty soon afterwards, following lots of pressure from our set pieces. A corner was swung in, Bunny followed it in at the back post as Real Northern waited for it to go out for a goal kick and Adam was on hand to force home Bunny’s cross.
The second half then pretty much followed the pattern of the first. It was a physical game with us showing most of the tempo with balls down the wings to Grif and Gori who put in crosses into the box. We couldn’t find a third goal despite our pressure though.
We then conceded the equaliser when we couldn’t clear the ball in our 6 yard box, a Real Northern attacker nipped in and smashed the ball goalwards, Godwin made a good save from point blank range but couldn’t keep out the rebound.
Our last throw of the dice to win the game was then to bring out Godwin from the nets, put him up top and put Jimmy Joyce in goal. G then came on for Adam who put in a great shift in his first match up front. We did have a few chances, notably with 2 shots from myself which were so softly struck that they looked like they were in slow motion but we couldn’t break through and a draw was the result.
Men of the Match. In the heat and on a bobbly pitch we all out a shift in but Gori and Grif deserve special mention for never giving up and being a constant source of danger to Real Northern.
This week we play Chiswick FC and we should really be looking to take 3 points from. It says double header on the fixture list. At the moment this will either be 2 games of an hour (3 points for each hour match) or 1 normal game of 90mins with 6 points on offer. I haven’t been able to run it by the ref yet so I’ll let you know nearer the match. Either way, we need to kick off by 10am so don’t be late!
See you Sunday
