ROVERS!
Rovers 2 – 0 Old Sergeant
I feel like we’re finally beginning to hit our stride.
As against Chiswick, the opposition weren’t up to much but you can only beat what’s put in front of you. We negotiated this tricky tie with veritable ease and we’ve got to be looking at beating these in the league to avenge our earlier league defeat.
Nathan on his debut put in a cracking display at centre half, despite not playing there for 6 years, scored the 2nd goal and picked up a shiner for his troubles after being booted in the face. That’s a typical Rover performance right there. Long may it continue. Great Movember Tache as well.
His scout Mr Woodward assisted Nathan for the finish ( a neat flick over the keeper) and also opened the scoring by seizing on a mistake by the keeper, running unchallenged towards the goal and thumping a Hitzlesperger (when he was good) esque left footer into the net.
From 2-0 up the game was as good as over. Indeed had Old Sergeant not been playing mud at centre half, for the second period, we would’ve been further ahead. A measured side footed effort from Bunny which stuck in the mud sticks particularly in the mind.
In fact the only time Old Sergeant really threatened was when JD made a thunderous backpass/clearance volley which nearly took Godwin’s head off in the nets.
The game ended at 2-0 and we’re therefore now in the 3rd Round of OUR cup. Let’s keep it going. Pity we came to the conclusion during our pre-match changing room chatter that Bert Gabey was probably a deviant s e x offender. That may be, but he’s our deviant s e x offender.
P.S. It was also a marvellous pleasure to see Smudger back in the fold. Great commitment once again from the man to get his Missus to drive him down to the match. Watch out for him in an upcoming Lucoazade advert. I await a bit of Lucozade merchandise for the Rovers. Nothing too major though. Only some water bottles, training bibs, cones, Isotonic Sports Drinks, bags, sports supplements, vitamins, new shorts, new socks, new shirts, some boots, shin pads, a magic sponge and 4 busty cheerleaders.
This week sees us take on Battersea Dogs at Wandsworth Park (this is in Putney.) We beat them last season and we can do so again but we need to be bang on our game. The league is upside down at the moment.
Please be at the ground at 9.15am and please look at the map.
