Match Report
Match Report - 16 Sep 2012, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers drew with Clapham Rovers
Rovers!
Rovers 3 - 3 Old Sergeant
For the 2nd game in 3 we drew 3-3 in what was in truth, quite a bizarre game. Despite a scratch line up of ringers and an unusal 3-5-2 formation we were cruising and playing some lovely stuff.
Godwin had put us 1-0 up with a composed finish in the box and it looked to be a question of how many we'd get. I remember thinking ' what an enjoyable game of football.'
With 5 minutes till half time, I then made a terrible mistake to gift Old Sergeant the equaliser and then a speculative shot which skipped off the turf under the Rovers keeper to make the score 2-1 to Old Sergeant at half time.
We then conceded another right at the beginning of the second half for a massively undeserved 3-1 deficit.
To make matters worse, one of our ringers injured himself making an incredible tackle and we went down to 10 men as we had no subs.
Old Sergeant then poured forward like the driving rain and we looked due for a tonking.
Despite all this we showed the typical Rovers 'near say die attitude' to grab a goal to make it 3-2 and then with the last kick of the game we made it 3-3.
After complaining at half time about the amount of shots from ridiculous distances with other options available, the Hitman ignored my sprint from the right back position to the edge of the box and drifted in a high, looping shot from the left hand edge of the box.
The keeper then did a 'Jim Stannard' (see Own Goals and Gaffs 2) and dropped the ball into the net. Despite laughing his tits off, Hitman still managed to blurt out 'If you don't buy a ticket, you don't win' as he turned away in celebration.
Balls to listening to my advice. Shoot from anywhere.
MOM. Griff had a superb game at centre mid, driving us forward, making chances and roughing up the opposition.

This week sees us take on Worcester Park Rangers in the First Round of the Gladys Perry Cup. Our Cup run last year paved the way for our title glory so let's lay down a marker to the rest of teams in the league by recording an eye catching result against a fellow Division One team.
