Match Report - 09 Oct 2011, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers lost to Dulwich Tandoori Cobras
Hello Rovers
Dulwich Tandoori Cobras 2 - 0 Clapham Rovers 'A'
It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.
Vince Lombardi
It says a lot about us an individuals and as a group that we're not used to losing. 21 victories in the last 25 league and cup games is an incredible and enviable record. However, that record counts for nothing if we don't pick ourselves up again, show our quality and go out and win subsequent games. We're in the cup this Sunday vs Northcote Falcons. Let's start then.
Looking back you could say that we were unlucky not to take something from the game. Dulwich Tandoori Cobras scored a somewhat fortuitous goal on 15 minutes from a coming together between two Rovers defenders, a lucky bounce and a suspicion of handball before slotting a good finish into the bottom corner of the net from 12 yards out.
They also only clinched the match in the last 5 minutes when we had committed men forward in search of an equaliser and a man was left free on the edge of the box to arrow a shot into the bottom right hand corner.
In between that we had at least 6 efforts in the first half which on another day would've resulted in a goal and a their keeper made a ridiculously good save in the second half from another Nick Woodward thunderbolt which looked in all the way.
We also had to contend with the fact that Nick's Dad had come to watch and whenever he comes we lose. I wish he had taken me up on the offer of an all expenses paid sightseeing taxi ride around London, 25 minutes into the match.
We started slowly but after their goal we picked up significantly and looked the stronger team until half time. We put Dulwich under pretty much constant pressure throughout the second half but we couldn't find a breakthrough. Several corners and crosses flashed across the box without anyone to stick it into the onion bag.
We can take heart from the fact that DTC are definitely beatable and i'm looking forward to taking points off them in the return fixture.
In the absence of an outstanding candidate for man of the match I think the following players should be commended on their performance; G, Miles and debutant Tom Radford.
