Match Report - 13 Mar 2011, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers lost to Valtaro Wasteels 'B'
Hello fellas.
Clapham Rovers 2 - Valtaro Wasteels 3
As disappointing as Sunday was, we must take the positives from a truly heroic footballing performance against a team who were made up from players from the top league, the Senior Amateur Division. There is no way on god's green earth that that the team we played is 2nd from bottom in Division Three. For long periods we outfought them, played better football and finished stronger after 120 minutes of football.
There is no limit to what we can achieve if we maintain the spirit, desire and commitment to the cause. We didn't play our best football of the season in a frantic game, but still created enough chances to win. On Sunday we came up against a keeper who had a blinder (and got lucky on occasions,) we had a shot cleared off the line, had a stonewall penalty disallowed in the first half and were the victims of two lucky deflections for their first 2 goals. On another day those decisions will go for us and we'll go marching into a cup final or win the league.
Be proud of your performance on Sunday, but remember the disappointment and use it to spur us to the league title. We can do it!
We've got a huge game this Sunday vs Inter Yalamb. Let's start then.
I'd be here all night if I could describe everything that went on in that game so i'll focus on the goals.
1st Half
0-1. From about 20 yards their forward takes a speculative shot which takes a deflection and veers past the keeper.
1-1. Clapham score the equaliser 5 minutes before half time when the ball comes in from a corner and is rammed into the net from close range.
2nd Half
2-1. Miles receives the ball back from Gaz with a superb flick on and continuing his lung bursting run into the box he is cynically brought down with only the keeper to beat. The Hitman blasts the ball into the net. The ref had already blown and after quite a delay the Hitman dispatches the penalty.
2-2. A cross from the right deflects off a Clapham defender to the floor and it lands at a Valtaro attackers feet who side foots it in.
2nd Half Extra Time
2-3. Heartbreak for Clapham as a Valtaro winger is brought down outside the box. A free kick is swung in and non-existent marking sees him with a free header to glance it in.
MOM.
3 players stood out for me on Sunday. Gaz when he got hold of the ball and began to play, controlled the match and made things happen. Matt Wright did the same to a lesser extent but showed more in the physical battle which his position required. Just edging these out was G who was a colossus at the back throughout.
