Match Report - 06 Feb 2011, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers beat PSJ
Hello fellas.
It's a mark of the season we're having that after scoring seven goals and keeping a clean sheet, the game was tinged with a bit of disappointment and frustration at how we had played. PSJ were awkward opponents, who defended deeply and had their keeper (with the fabulous nickname/surname/name he was christened with; ''Pasty') to thank for some great saves which he pulled out from nowhere. A strong wind didn't help and I think Dan Endara described it perfectly when he said that sometimes you end up being brought down to the level of your opponents.
I'm therefore delighted that we are playing PSJ again this week and can right some of the wrongs. All is not lost though and let's remain positive. Were it not for a lick of paint on the cross bar, we would've scored perhaps the greatest Clapham Rovers goal ever after a flowing move, made up of 15 one touch passes, which Nick nearly slammed into the net.
Goals
1.Simon - A header from a Nick Woodward corner at the near post.
2.Bunny - What I intially described as a flying knee from a Nick Woodward cross but was later confirmed as a shin by the man himself. They all count and its nice to see Bunny get a few more goals this season.
3.Rob Shields - Another cross from Nick found its way to Rob Shields just inside the box and he slammed it into the bottom corner.
4.Simon - One on one with the keeper, he had a shot, it hit the keeper and slowly rolled over the line.
5.Mark Oliviera - After stealthily advancing from his left back position and loitering about on the edge of the box he finally received the ball, stepped inside on his right foot and walloped it from about 25 yards into the middle of the net. I heard a shout of 'crisp packet hands' after it whipped through the keeper's grasp but I thought it was nothing short of tremendous.
6.Simon - A jinking run into the box by Aidan from the right hand side resulted in the ball running to Simon who slotted it into the left hand corner for his second successive hat trick.
7.Aidan - A throw into the box was glanced into the bottom right hand corner off the top of Aidan's bonce.
MOM. There were quite a few contenders for MOM in my mind. Nick for his numerous assists, Simon for his hat trick and Rob Shields for his composure and keeping the team ticking along nicely. They were all very close but I shall plump for Aidan who for spells in the game was absolutely unplayable and put in some fantastic through balls.
