Match Report - 03 Oct 2010, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers beat Wessex Rangers
What a game we had last Sunday! 4-0 up at half time and absolutely coasting we then managed to let Wessex Rangers 'B' back into the game with a dodgy goal, before descending into mass panic and letting Wessex get it back to 4-4. Jordan Gaskell then sealed the win with a dramatic last minute winner for 5-4.
Goals from Jordan, Simon, an O.G. and Nick (who was making an impressive debut,) in the first half rewarded the dominance we had. Jordan also went close with a left footer from the the right hand corner of the box alongside numerous goal mouth scrambles which were only just hooked clear. Had it been 8-0 at half time Wessex could not have complained. Indeed at half time the general chat was about just how many we could get.
However, the second half saw us kicking into the wind and the wet conditions caused havoc for me in goal. A speculative shot I should've saved rebounded to their attacker who had a simple tap in. The same attacker then had another tap in after a scramble from a corner for 4-2. They then scored from a deflection at a free kick and equalised with a deflected shot I couldn't handle. Somewhere in the madness the Hitman was sent off for pushing someone far too small for him and Gaz was booked for a tackle that looked worse than it was as he landed in a large puddle afterwards.
Jordan then saved our blushes with a tap in from 2 yards which sparked wild celebrations.
We look dangerous every time we attack and if we can just tighten up defensively, and by that I mean the whole team, we'll be in for a very successful season.
