Match Report

Match Report - 01 Nov 2009, Clapham Rovers Clapham Rovers lost to Real Northern

We sank to a third consecutive loss on Sunday after a miserable morning in the torrential rain and tempestuous winds encircling Wandsworth Common. Turnout was good - we had 14, although only 12 and a half of them were able bodied. The quality of the play on show was tempered considerably by the conditions but we played some nice stuff in the first half, particularly the 2 Matts in the centre of midfield. On 2 occasions Hitman Harley was put through on goal but due to a combination of some solid keeping by the oppo's no.1 and a debilitating hamstring injury depriving him of that all-important last yard of pace, we were not successful on either occasion. To exacerbate our anguish, Real Northern scored just before half time.

The second half was a more sorry affair. We really didn't carve out anything of note and our shape became quite ragged towards the end. Real were a well-drilled lot as you'd expect from a team sitting atop the league and they seemed to cope with the conditions better than we did. They scored twice more before the end, neither of which Tom the Cat could do anything about. 3-0 the final result and I personally couldn't complain much about that. They were simply better than us on the day.
